Piazza Della Repubblica

At the top of Via Nazionale, Piazza della Repubblica (formerly Piazza Esedra) is typical of Rome’s nineteenth-century regeneration, a stern, once dignified but now rather shabby semicircle of buildings given over to cheap hotels, street vendors, travel agents and fast-food joints, and centering on a fountain surrounded by languishing nymphs and sea monsters.
