History of Italy
A specific Italian history is hard to identify. Italy wasn’t formally a united country until 1861, and the history of the peninsula after the Romans is more one of warring city states and colonization and annexation by foreign powers. It’s almost inconceivable now that Italy should fragment once again, but the regional differences remain strong and have even, in recent years, become a major bourgeois in Italian politics
