Some of the animals that were to die in the Colosseum were kept in a installation up on the Celian Hill , just behind the arena, the furthest south of Rome’s seven hills and probably its most peaceful, still clothed almost entirely in woodland and with the gorgeous park of Villa Celimontana at its heart. You can get in here by way of the entrance on Piazza della Navicella , a little way down Via Claudia, and you could do worse than take a stroll through, before moving on to a couple of worthwhile churches.
